Bag obsession...

I love bags- handbags, leather bags, overnight bags, I even love shopping for suitcases! Whilst I was studying for my teaching degree I worked at a handbag shop and was in heaven! And slightly broke... 
I
 was very spoilt this week with a new #dkny bag that is very different to the soft slouchy leather bags I go for. It is structured, hard leather and very classy! I love it! 

This also got me thinking about the bag dilemmas I have a school- I love taking a handbag (where else am I going to get the chance to get them out??) I need to take a bag that holds my laptop and books and I have a cooler lunch bag. 

 Three bags!! I'm officially the bag lady!! 

 I know I could solve this with backpack or a larger handbag computer combined (my collegue has a # forevernew one and it is to die for!) but I kind of don't want to. I love mixing my handbags up so I feel like I need a better laptop/ lunch bag solution! I'm off to #kmart this morning to see what I can find. Any suggestions welcomed- I'll keep you posted on my journey!!

Professional Development day...

Super excited to be off to the city today for a school PD. I'm going to be participating in a workshop on creative writing which I think will be awesome!  I have started a program at my school called Word Vomit where we are encouraging the students to write down whatever they think and then concentrate on making it better.  The biggest challenge for kids today is the art of drafting and not getting it perfect the first time. I have so many students who are afraid to write as they can't get started because they don't have the perfect opening line. This concept of having to be perfect I think comes from the use of technology. I think we have always felt that the 'typed' version is the final version. As such students don't edit or rewrite what they have already typed.  I have tried to implement the rule that nobody gets an iPad until they have written a draft. Most of the time it works- some of the time I end up with an argument!! Students will maintain

Breakfast and a show...

I now know that the problem was that I said it out loud. I said it to my friends. I said it to my husband, I even said it to his teacher. I now know better. Never say it out loud.   "He's having a really good week."   And he really had been. My little ASDer had been happy, cheerful and compliant. Excited to go to school and doing extra homework he was ever a delight.    Saturday came and under the illusion of this wonderful behaviour, I didn't hesitat e to take my child to a boxing class at the beach. He was great! This streak was continuing so off to breakfast I suggested to a friend.    Fate and luck had run out.    He chose the wrong food.    He didn't like the toys that were there.   He was bored.    So after his chocolate milkshake was consumed and he ate the discovered gingerbread that marginally saved breakfast- it was time to go. Having a moment...

I'm sitting in a cafe, sipping my coffee, waiting for my pasta having a mummy moment! I'm enjoying the quiet, the time to my self and mostly not having to tell someone to sit down!! I thinks it's important and we say it time and time again, to have a moment! School is hectic this time of year- reports, celebration assembly, graduation and this crazy notion I develop that sleep is for the weak and I can do it all! Throw in my son's birthday, family visits, Christmas parties and general chaos and life feels very stretched at times. On top of everything I'm having a much needed hernia operation done at the end of the month and I'm petrified!  So I'm going to enjoy this moment- I hope you find one to enjoy too!
